The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg is located on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia, about one hour from Halifax. With a population base of 25,000 people, the Municipality has a diversified economy based on manufacturing, government, fisheries, tourism, agriculture, and creative industries.
On their behalf, we are seeking a Senior Building Official. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, this role is responsible for administering and enforcing the provisions of the National Building Code, the Nova Scotia Building Code Act and Regulations, and the Nova Scotia Fire Safety Act and Regulations, and the National Fire Code.
What's required for this role?
Ideally you have experience and education in construction or building trades and possess Level 2 Building Code certification. Certification as a Level 1 Fire Inspector is also an asset. You must be eligible for membership in the Nova Scotia Building Officials Association.
Personally, you have exceptional communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, as you will interact daily with many stakeholders including co-workers, regulatory agencies, developers, and residents. Because of the nature of the work, you must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
Lastly, you combine the flexibility to adapt to dynamic circumstances with the demonstrated ability to act decisively under pressure.
