Town of Yarmouth (pop 6,518), located in Southwestern Nova Scotia, is the financial, business, education, and lifestyle centre for 70,000 people who live in the tri-counties of Yarmouth, Digby and Shelburne. They are now seeking a Planner to join their Planning and Development Department on a one-year term contract.
In this role, you will work on a range of projects such as land use planning amendments, development agreements, site plan approvals, and managing appeals. You will also act as a resource to the public, staff, Council, and the Planning Advisory Committee on planning and development matters—providing policy research, analysis, and advice. You will plan and implement public consultation opportunities, as appropriate.
As the ideal candidate, you have experience in a municipal environment which could include working for a municipality or with a consulting engineering firm that does municipal work. A successful track record working with a range of stakeholders including elected officials, staff, consultants and the community is required. As well, you must be eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
The Town is willing to consider candidates with a range of experience, including those relatively new to the field, or experienced planners seeking a career opportunity that offers a broad scope of work.
If you are interested in this challenging opportunity, please forward your resume and a cover letter explaining why you are qualified for this role. Submissions can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at firstname.lastname@example.org, quoting project number 1811 in the subject line.
