The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is a major world-class music and cultural event that recognizes Canada’s history and debt to the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Mounted Police; attracts tourism to Nova Scotia; educates youth through workshops and participation; and stimulates Canadian patriotism. First presented in 1979, the week-long production attracts about 60,000 attendees annually and is the world’s largest annual indoor show.
The governing body—the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Society—is seeking a Managing Director/Executive Producer who will provide the leadership and direction to manage the continued growth and impact of the Tattoo in coming years.
In this role, you will report to a Board of Directors and have overall responsibility for all aspects of the organization including logistics, finance, marketing, promotions, public relations, fund raising, human resources, volunteers and sponsorships.
You will directly manage a small, highly capable staff including the artistic director, business manager, marketing manager, and a development manager and through them oversee another 30 – 40 full-time, contract and volunteer personnel.
As the ideal candidate, you possess several qualities. First, you have an appreciation of the role played by the Canadian Armed Forces and police in Canadian society as well as respect for the history and traditions of the Canadian Forces and RCMP. You must buy-in to the mission, purpose and goals of the event.
Second, you have a solid understanding of event management and appreciate the artistic talents needed to produce a show of this calibre. Third, you understand best practices in fund raising, strategic planning, finance, administration, marketing, operations, human resources and governance. Fourth, you appreciate the challenges of leading a volunteer-run, not-for-profit business.
This is a big mission—and that’s why we are looking for an exceptional individual. If you have interest in this opportunity, please forward a thoughtful letter explaining why you are qualified and, in particular, how you could contribute to the growth and development of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
