Music Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit association that encourages the creation, development, growth, and promotion of Nova Scotia’s music industry. They do this by providing education, information and resources to their members; by advocating for the industry to all levels of government and private sector; and by promoting the export of Nova Scotia music regionally, nationally, and internationally.
On their behalf, we are seeking an experienced professional as its Executive Director.
In this role, you will assume overall responsibility for providing leadership and direction to the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors and operating within a strategic planning framework, you will manage all day-to-day operations of the organization, including programming, administration, event management, member services, funding, sponsorship, human resources, advocacy, and public affairs.
A strong leader and facilitator, you will provide proper guidance and support to an experienced staff and help them achieve their own performance objectives.
As several programs are funded through government channels, you will liaise with key government officials to ensure open and communicative relationships exist and funding deadlines are met. You will also build and maintain linkages with other stakeholders including the corporate community, sponsors, volunteers, and regional, national and international associations.
As the ideal candidate, you have management experience in the arts and culture sector, and you understand the challenges of running an industry association.
You have a generalist background including skills in finance, administration, human resources, policy development and program management. Your fund raising and sponsorship skills are well-developed and you enjoy excellent contacts within all sectors.
You have experience working with a volunteer-based board and understand the relationships between staff and volunteers. You possess excellent communication skills and are known for your ability to motivate people to meet sometimes difficult and challenging objectives. The ability to conduct business in English and French would be an asset.
