Dartmouth Adult Services Centre (DASC) is a dynamic social enterprise providing employment, vocational, and day programs for adults with intellectual disabilities. These individuals provide a range of quality products and services to businesses throughout the Halifax region.
The long-serving, incumbent Executive Director is leaving the organization early in the New Year and they are now seeking an experienced and respected not-for-profit leader who can guide the organization in the coming years.
What qualities are required as Executive Director?
First and foremost, you are an exceptional leader who can combine long-term, strategic thinking with day-to-day management of the organization. Personally, you have a strong belief in the value of the not-for-profit sector to Nova Scotia and a demonstrated track record of pursuing causes that contribute to the good of the community.
You possess appropriate academic credentials and several years progressive experience leading and managing in a not-for-profit or social enterprise setting.
As a highly visible community leader, your exceptional interpersonal and communications skills enable you to build and nurture constructive relationships with a wide and diverse group of stakeholders. That group includes various levels of government, clients and their families, similar agencies throughout Nova Scotia, media, elected officials, funding partners, Board members, and others.
As the main interface with the Board of Directors, you are knowledgeable of good governance practices. In this capacity, you must be able to work collaboratively with the Board, keeping them abreast of all external and internal issues that could affect the organization.
Operationally, you bring well-developed skills in human resources, financial management, operations, funding, risk management, communications, reporting, and strategic planning. You also have experience in fund development which will enable DASC to build upon the base of long-term government funding. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is fundamental to all aspects of this role.
And last, but certainly not least, you are an extraordinary leader of others and known for creating an environment where people strive to do their best in the service of our community.
The leader of this organization must be a special person—one who has all the above qualities and does it with compassion, confidence, and humility. If this describes you, please forward your resume and a letter explaining clearly how your background and experience will meet the needs of DASC. Applications can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at firstname.lastname@example.org, quoting project number 1857 in the subject line.
We encourage applications from all qualified candidates including Indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, and persons of a minority sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
