Executive Director - Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia (CSCNS) - Position Filled


The Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia’s (CSCNS) mission is to bring together non-profit and voluntary organizations to ensure they can effectively meet the needs of all of Nova Scotia’s communities and citizens.

The CSCNS works collaboratively to activate networks in order find innovative solutions to emerging and existing sectoral issues. The CSCNS, itself, is part of a network of 13 sector councils designated by the Government of Nova Scotia.

After a widespread consultation process, CSCNS recently adopted a strategic plan for the next three years. They are now seeking an experienced and respected non-profit leader who can guide the organization in the successful implementation of that plan.


What qualities are required as Executive Director?

First and foremost, you are an exceptional leader who can combine long-term, strategic thinking with day-to-day management of the organization. Personally, you have a strong belief in the value of the non-profit sector to Nova Scotia and a demonstrated track record of pursuing causes that contribute to the good of the community.

You possess appropriate academic credentials and several years progressive experience leading and managing in a non-profit, social enterprise, or local government environment. Well-versed in systems and systems change, you have a track record of leading in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

As a highly visible community leader, your exceptional interpersonal and communications skills enable you to build and nurture constructive relationships with a wide and diverse group of stakeholders. That group includes various levels of government, member organizations, other non-profit and voluntary sector leaders, media, elected officials, funding partners, Board members, and others.

As the main interface with the Board of Directors, you are knowledgeable of good governance practices. In this capacity, you must be able to work collaboratively with the Board, keeping them abreast of all external and internal issues that could affect the organization. 

Operationally, you bring skills in financial management, policy development, data analysis, funding, risk management, human resources, communications, reporting, and technology. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity is fundamental to all aspects of this role.

And last, but certainly not least, you are an extraordinary leader of others and known for creating an environment where people strive to do their best in the service of our community.
