Director of Finance

Town of Sussex, New Brunswick

The Town of Sussex, a major regional centre in south central New Brunswick, is seeking an experienced financial professional to assume the challenging role of Director of Finance and Town Treasurer.

Reporting directly to Town Council concerning financial matters and to the Chief Administrative Officer for administrative matters, you will provide overall financial management for the Town including financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, financial planning, financing, risk management, funding, and internal controls.

In your capacity as Town Treasurer, you will also be responsible for fulfilling the statutory requirements of the position regarding the financial management of the Corporation.

What qualities are needed as Director of Finance?

As the ideal candidate, you have several years’ experience in financial management roles, preferably in a municipal or government setting. You hold a professional accounting designation (CPA) and possess strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills. You have a solid understanding of the challenges facing local governments and are familiar with “best practices” in financial management. 

Possessing strong interpersonal skills, you have a proven track record building consensus among all stakeholders including elected officials, senior management, employees, the business community, residents, community groups, and other levels of government. 

You have a keen appreciation for detail while also being able to keep your eye on the big picture. You are comfortable with technology and have proven experience planning and managing information systems. You are also an excellent manager of people and can provide the necessary guidance and support to them that enables them to be successful in their roles.
