Executive Director — Filled
4-H Nova Scotia is the premier youth development organization in Nova Scotia. It is a member-led and member-driven organization that promotes leadership and builds positive life skills among youth through hands-on learning in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.
The organization has a long history of contributing to the economy, the environment, and rural communities throughout Nova Scotia. The heart of 4-H is its clubs which include dedicated members and volunteers serving as club and project leaders. In Nova Scotia alone, there are more than 3,200 members and leaders spread over 75 clubs.
In 2022, 4-H Nova Scotia will be 100 years old. The organization is poised to launch into its next 100 years. They are now seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead the way.
What qualities are required as Executive Director?
First and foremost, you are an exceptional leader who can combine long-term, strategic thinking with the day-to-day operations of the organization. Personally, you have a strong belief in the vision of 4-H Nova Scotia and demonstrated experience supporting the leadership and development of youth in the community.
You are comfortable serving as the face of the organization in community relations and advocacy roles. Here, you will build and maintain good working relationships with community groups, funders, government, elected officials, media, and other stakeholders to achieve the goals of 4-H Nova Scotia.
Operationally, you have well-developed skills in human resources, financial management, operations, program delivery, policy development, volunteer development, communications, and strategic planning.
You also have experience in fund development which will enable the organization to build upon the base of long-term government funding. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is fundamental to all aspects of this role.
You must also have a strong understanding of governance practices in the not-for-profit sector and experience working with a dedicated Board of Directors. In this capacity, you will work collaboratively with the Board, keeping them abreast of all external and internal issues that could affect the organization.
And last, but certainly not least, you are an extraordinary leader of others. This is important because the new Executive Director will have the opportunity to lead an organization—so rooted in history—into an exciting new era.
