Director of Community Connections - Feed Nova Scotia

Feed Nova Scotia’s mission is to increase food security in Nova Scotia through food distribution, education and collaboration. They do this by collecting and distributing food to more than 144 member agency food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout Nova Scotia. They also provide support, research, and awareness as they strive to develop food secure communities for thousands of Nova Scotians.

On their behalf, we are seeking a highly respected individual as Director of Community Connections.

What qualities are needed in this role?

You are a visionary leader, part of a senior leadership team, developing and working towards achieving Feed Nova Scotia’s mission to increase food security through education, collaboration and distribution. You have an ability to energize individuals into action, striving towards strategic goals while embracing and embodying organizational values in all aspects of your work. This includes:

  • Networking and developing relationships with key partners;
  • Providing strategic leadership and direction on community program planning; and
  • Ensuring all programs are provided with respect, sharing, caring, hope, and accountability.

You demonstrate leadership and care towards your team whom you empower to succeed. Your collaborative approach is evident through mentoring and training, and by providing regular performance feedback.

You generate enthusiasm and commitment in people to help optimize the impact of the 144 agencies we support. Your leadership is inspirational, creating a sense of direction and purpose in creating food secure communities.

Operationally, you are skilled at developing communication and educational strategies, implementing strategic annual work plans, and driving policy change.

As the ideal candidate, you are a skilled leader with appropriate academic or professional qualifications. You have widespread experience in all aspects of leadership, communications, community connections, coaching and developing others. Experience influencing public policy, embracing and championing sustained change, is a definite asset in this role.

And most importantly, you have a strong social conscience and are committed to doing what it takes to help those who are in need.
