Chief Building Official Filled

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and Municipality of Chester are located on the beautiful South Shore of Nova Scotia. With a combined population of approximately 35,000 residents, they feature a diversified economy based on manufacturing, government, fisheries, tourism, agriculture, and creative industries.

On their behalf, we seek a qualified professional to serve in the newly created role of Chief Building Official. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, this role serves as senior lead on shared building inspection services across the two municipalities and two Towns that they provide services to. The Chief Building Official also performs inspection, acts as Fire Inspector as required, and ensures adequate service delivery.

What’s required for this role?

In addition to being a qualified Level 2 Building Official, you bring significant supervisory experience, a professional trade or post-secondary diploma or degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ideally, you have experience and education in construction or building trades, are certified as a Level 1 Fire Inspector and are eligible for membership in the Nova Scotia Building Officials Association.

You have exceptional communication, coaching, interpersonal and customer service skills, as you will interact daily with staff, regulatory agencies, developers, and residents. In addition, because of the nature of the work, you are detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
