Situated in northern Nova Scotia within a region of 45,000 people, Westville is a small town with a big heart. Its 3,700 residents enjoy beautiful green spaces and events that fill the streets and parks throughout the year, including one of Atlantic Canada’s largest Canada Day celebrations.
On their behalf, we are seeking a skilled and highly collaborative leader to assume the role of Chief Administrative Officer.
What qualities are needed for this role?
Reporting to a Council of five members, you will be responsible for managing all day-to-day operations of the Town and providing quality services and programs to residents, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act of Nova Scotia.
In this role, you will provide timely guidance to Council and ensure that all programs and services are carried out effectively. As an effective leader and facilitator, you will support staff in achieving their performance objectives. In addition, you will liaise with stakeholders, other municipal units, and various levels of government on projects that meet the needs of residents and other stakeholders.
Ideally, you have leadership experience in administrative or management roles, preferably in the public sector. However, the Town is open to considering candidates from other sectors who may be hoping to pursue a career path in municipal government.
You have suitable academic or professional credentials and can build consensus among various stakeholders such as elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and citizens. You are familiar with the issues and challenges facing rural municipalities and understand best practices in community development, financial, administrative, operations, human resources, and governance.
You have a successful track record of accomplishments and possess well-developed personal qualities, including communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
