Fire Chief The Kentville Volunteer Fire Department serves the Town of Kentville and a large fire district in the surrounding area of Kings County. On their behalf, we are seeking a talented and experienced leader to assume the critical role of Fire Chief. Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction on all fire related emergency services, as well as fire prevention/public education, operations and programs in the service area. You will also be responsible for supervising approximately 60 volunteer members of the Department. Specifically, you will be responsible for the on-going development of firefighting administrative and operational services. Skillful in working with others, you will oversee training of volunteer members and participate fully in all human resource activities. In addition, you will be responsible for consulting with relevant parties on policy matters and for liaising with government authorities on the enforcement of applicable by-laws and regulations. As the ideal candidate, you possess appropriate academic or professional credentials in firefighting and have significant experience in fire service, including several years at a senior, supervisory level. Adept at working with volunteers, you have a sound knowledge of human resources including supervision, training and discipline. You also bring extensive knowledge of fire regulations, practices and policies.Personally, you have exceptional communication, analytical, conflict management and customer service skills. You are a proven leader with the ability to develop others, exercise flexibility and initiative in changing circumstances, and act decisively under pressure.
