Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association (SMUSA), an independent, student-run organization representing the interests of all full and part-time students at the University, is seeking a multi-talented individual as General Manager.

Reporting to the President of SMUSA and working closely with the Executive, the Board of Directors, and University administration, you will provide the necessary leadership and direction to this diverse organization as it delivers a wide range of student-focused activities including lounge operations, health plans, safe drive program, yearbook production, student advocacy, events, and support to societies. Working with a $4.5 million budget and a full-time professional staff of five people, you will ensure all these programs and services are carried out effectively. Highly-familiar with governance processes in not-for-profit organizations, you will also provide timely advice and guidance to the Board and President on both strategic and operational matters of relevance to them.

As the ideal candidate, you have a proven track record of accomplishments in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. A strong relationship builder, your collaborative and consultative approach to conducting business is very much respected and you are known for your ability to motivate people to meet difficult and challenging objectives. Personally, you possess a set of well-developed qualities that includes integrity, accountability, communication, and leadership skills. Operationally, you have well-honed skills in finance, operations, administration, human resources, governance and policy development. In particular, you are skillful in the management of people and actively support all managers and staff in achieving their job performance objectives. Knowledge of the issues facing universities, and its students, in particular, is an asset in this role.Interviews for this position will commence the week of February 1, 2010.
