Executive Director The lobster industry is the largest fishery in Canada and is the economic backbone of many coastal communities in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. On behalf of the newly-established Lobster Council of Canada, we are seeking a multi-talented individual as Executive Director. Reporting to a volunteer Council, you will provide the necessary leadership and direction to this start-up organization. The primary responsibility of the job is to build consensus among the distinct groups in the industry, including harvesters, processors, buyers, and marketers, on issues such as sustainability, policy, pricing and marketing, and in doing so, become a strong voice for the lobster industry as a whole. To achieve this goal, you will work closely with all stakeholders, from fishers and packers on the wharf to politicians in government and executives in industry to ensure their interests are understood and their diverse needs are met. This will entail considerable travel throughout the four Atlantic Provinces and Quebec as you communicate frequently and openly to all. Based in Halifax, you will also manage all facets of the office such as communications, government relations, administration, and public relations. As the ideal candidate, you have proven experience in the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. A strong relationship builder, your collaborative and consultative approach to conducting business is very much respected and you are known for your ability to motivate people to meet difficult and challenging objectives. Familiar with governance issues in the not-for-profit sector, you understand the challenges of running a regional organization. Operationally, you have well-honed skills in government relations, finance, administration, human resources, public relations and policy development. Knowledge of the Canadian seafood industry is an asset in this role. |
