Administrative Officer The Lawyers' Insurance Association of Nova Scotia (LIANS), which administers the professional liability insurance program for members of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, is seeking a highly skilled individual as Administrative Officer.This position will report directly to the Director of LIANS, and will provide support for various areas within LIANS. This is an interesting position that involves a number of duties. First, you will work closely with the Risk and Practice Management (RPM) Advisor and provide administrative support to that role. This will entail the management of the RPM claims-related data, including producing accurate claims statistics for reporting purposes. In this capacity, you will also assist with the preparation/editing of written reports, articles, presentations, and various web and print publications. Second, you will assist with the revision of the LIANS web site, and once completed, you will be responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the site. Additionally, you will be involved in some accounting functions, claims processing, and other administrative duties within the department as assigned by the Claims Counsel, RPM Advisor and/or Director. As the ideal candidate, you have several years’ experience managing and reporting on information with large databases. This would include not only accurately inputting data and information but interpreting it in a relevant, meaningful way for end users. Highly organized and analytical, you have extensive knowledge of office automation software and report generation programs. You are familiar with web site development and maintenance and can cite a number of web sites that you’ve worked on. As this position requires involvement with lawyers and the general public in highly confidential situations, you must have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience working in a legal or insurance environment is an asset and post-secondary education/training is required. |
