Executive Director Music Nova Scotia, an industry association devoted to advancing careers of music industry professionals, is seeking an experienced professional as its Executive Director. In this key role, you will assume overall responsibility for providing leadership and direction to the organization. Reporting to a visionary Board of Directors and operating within a strategic planning framework, you will manage all day-to-day operations of the organization, including administration, operations, event management, member services, funding, sponsorship, human resources, advocacy, and public affairs. A strong leader and facilitator, you will provide proper guidance and support to an experienced staff of five people and help them achieve their own performance objectives.As a number of programs are funded through government channels, you will liaise with key government officials to ensure open and communicative relationships exist and funding deadlines are met. You will also build and maintain linkages with other stakeholders including the corporate community, sponsors, volunteers, and regional, national and international associations. As the ideal candidate, you have proven experience in the not-for-profit sector, and in particular you understand the challenges of running a small, industry association. You have a generalist background including skills in finance, administration, human resources, policy development and program management. Your fund raising and sponsorship skills are well-developed and you enjoy excellent contacts within all sectors. You have experience working with a volunteer-based board and understand the relationships between staff and volunteers. You possess excellent communication skills and are known for your ability to motivate people to meet sometimes difficult and challenging objectives. Knowledge of the arts and culture industry is clearly an asset in this role.
