Chief Administrative Officer Our client, the Municipality of the District of Shelburne, is seeking a strategic leader and manager to assume the challenging role of Chief Administrative Officer. Located in a beautiful rural setting in Southwestern Nova Scotia, two hours from Halifax, the Municipality offers a quality and pace of life that is second to none. As CAO, you are responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Municipality in accordance with the Municipal Government Act of Nova Scotia. Reporting to a Council of seven members, you will be accountable for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of policies, programs and projects within the Municipality. In this role, you will provide timely advice and guidance to Council and under their direction ensure that all programs and services are carried out effectively. A strong leader and facilitator, you will support departmental managers and all staff in achieving their performance objectives. You will liaise with stakeholders, other municipal units and levels of government on key projects affecting the Municipality. You will also ensure that all major policies and initiatives are communicated to the broader community. As the ideal candidate, you have several years’ experience in municipal government, ideally within a CAO model of governance. Alternatively, you have administrative or management experience at the provincial or federal level of government. You have strong academic and professional credentials and a solid track record building consensus and promoting cooperation among elected officials, senior management, labour, employees, citizens and other key stakeholders, such as boards, agencies and committees. You are familiar with the issues and challenges facing municipalities and understand best practices in financial, administrative, operational, human resources and project management. You have a successful track record of accomplishments and possess well-developed personal qualities including integrity, personal values, communication and leadership skills.
