We are a group of highly skilled professionals with broad experience in all facets of recruitment, selection, career transition, coaching and human resources. Clients in a wide variety of industries - manufacturing, communications, transportation, wholesale, retail, professional services, government, not-for-profit, technology, health care and financial services - have drawn on this skill and experience to achieve their organizational goals. Here is a brief profile of our staff and associates:
Gerry is the founder and President of Gerald Walsh Associates Inc., a firm specializing in executive search, career transition and executive coaching. The firm provides services at the professional, middle management and senior management levels for national and regional companies.
Prior to establishing Gerald Walsh Associates in 1990, Gerry worked in several industry sectors including manufacturing, construction, banking, technology and professional services. He is a professional accountant (CMA) by training and holds an MBA degree. He served as Chair of CMA Canada, a national organization with 40,000 members. His wealth of experience enables him to understand the issues faced by managers and professionals and he uses this knowledge in recruiting and coaching others across a wide range of sectors.
An accomplished author, speaker and facilitator, Gerry has contributed many insightful articles on work, people and leadership to professional publications and newspapers. He conducts numerous seminars and workshops for corporate clients, universities, professional groups and industry associations. He also writes a monthly e-newsletter for his clients. He is certified to administer the EQ-I (Emotional Quotient Inventory), the world's leading measurement of emotional intelligence.
As a search consultant and executive coach, Gerry has enjoyed the privilege of working with thousands of middle-to-senior level managers and professionals, coaching and interviewing over 10,000 individuals throughout his career.
Gerry believes strongly in giving back to the communities in which we live and work. As a result, his firm and its employees are actively involved with many community and professional groups including Blue Nose International Marathon, Saint Mary's University, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Hope Cottage, Terry Fox Foundation, Women of Excellence Awards, Feed Nova Scotia, Halifax Chamber of Commerce, Human Resources Association of Nova Scotia, and Greater Halifax Partnership. While Gerry has many volunteer and community interests, his passion is long-distance running. To date, he has completed over twenty-five full and half marathons, and in his lifetime has run more than 30,000 miles.
ASSOCIATES
Joanne Lefebre, BA, CRHM, CHRP
Joanne brings a broad range of business management and human resource consulting experience to the career transition services group at Gerald Walsh Associates. Having successfully opened and managed a series of offices for local and international organizations, she has in-depth management experience in staffing, sales and marketing, business planning, financial controls, and project management.
At mid-career, Joanne opted to make a career change and entered the field of human resource consulting, and has since built an equally strong reputation as a highly skilled and professional human resource consultant. Her expertise includes coaching leaders in managing the human impact of organizational change and providing services to help organizations ensure people are treated fairly and respectfully throughout the change process.
Employing a highly caring yet pragmatic coaching style, Joanne provides career transition services to individuals and groups who are facing job loss as a result of corporate restructuring or dismissal. She has assisted hundreds of individuals, across all sectors and at every organizational level, to make appropriate career decisions and successfully transition to new employment opportunities in the most-timely manner possible.
Joanne is skilled in using career and personality assessment tools to help her clients better understand themselves and their skills. She assists them with researching job markets and uncovering employment opportunities, all the while coaching them to recognize their key strengths and their transferable skills. Other consulting services include resume writing, interview preparation and salary negotiations.
Joanne holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Certificate in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary's University. She is a member of the Human Resource Association of Nova Scotia and is a Certified Human Resource Professional.
Lori Weir, BA
Lori's understanding of employee and leadership behavior comes from ten years of developing training curriculum, and speaking to over 5,000 people - on topics such as: coaching, communication, service and sales.
Based in Saint John, NB, Lori works with corporate clients throughout North America in government, aerospace, ICT, forest products, financial services, tourism, community development, shipbuilding, retail, and manufacturing. Her clients are supported through leadership consulting, training and coaching services.
Lori is on the Executive for ALS Canada, co-chairing their national advocacy committee. She has a degree in Political Science and French from St Thomas University.
Michael Leiter, Ph.D., Associate
Michael is professor of psychology at Acadia University and director of the Centre for Organizational Research and Development, which applies high-quality research methods to human resource issues that confront organizations. Michael holds the Canada Research Chair in Occupational Health and Wellness and is actively involved as a consultant on organizational development issues in Canada, the United States and Europe.
